I've an idea that those operating hopper wagons can catch on some of the series 3 point motors too. Always an 'unexpected pleasure' when loaded with ore! Thanks for sharing your collection, I'd no idea that there were so many variations on the UK version.

9f has to be one of my favourites, personally the railroad version is the best balance of modern improvements to chassis and detail but didn't mess much with the original castings and parts from the 70s. I have both evening star and a black one. But still have a soft spot for the real vintage stuff.

Fabulous video, thank you Oscar. The early Ringfield is such a lovely motor isn't it? The story goes that Richard Lines wanted Triang to go out with a bang for it's last new loco before being taken over by Rovex/Hornby and he thought that the 9f with the Fleischman derived Ringfield motor in the tender would be the perfect way to sign off. Great assortment of grain/mineral hopper/wagons there Oscar, they are the perfect load for the 9f aren't they? Regards, Antony.

These silver seal models really are my favourite. I received the operating ore set back in Christmas 1979. Had lots of fun with it at the time. I have considered getting one again, but sadly not enough room on my layout to accommodate one these days. Thanks for sharing.

A good video this morning Oscar, I do have a tender drive 9f myself, its a later version where the tender can be fully decoupled and it’s not wired permanently to the locomotive, it’s also Evening Star, mine though looks like it’s on its last legs as the last time I ran it it was quite smokey and just running very sluggish so it’s going to have to be a new armature for mine or I might look at those motor conversion items that many sell for it, great video overall, wouldn’t mine a black 9f myself as it’s quite a nice livery on the locomotives plus all the 9fs except Evening Star wore BR Black, keep up the great work Oscar.

Hi Oscar, Nice intro footage and definitely a box ticking video for me, excuse the pun. I have the 9F in its box and marked ‘Shop Model’. It is one of the smoothest and most responsive models I have however whoever serviced it was not very kind to the tender retaining clips so judicious use of blu tack called for. Very interesting and informative overview of the Ore Wagons. I have a few variants including the one with the detachable roof, great entertainment as a youngster, still ongoing 😀 Gordon

Hi Oscar, what a great collection of all the different Ore wagon variations...The loco is very interesting as well .. What a well designed chassis to navigate all of those coupled wheels around the sharp 'Series 3' curves and points.. It's almost a pity not to have an ore unloading bridge on this layout, but you are right.. They do take up a lot of space? zvery nice to see the Dublo freight running at the same time.. From the distance that the video is taken at, I would never have picked the wagons with wooden bodies? They still looked good running with the tinplate ones.. It goes to show that superfluous detail is lost with a bit of distance? I'll bet that nothing is broken off of those 1950s wagons after all these years either.. A very enjoyable video.. Thanks again.. Rob

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your excellent video of the 9F pulling the hopper wagons, it was clever of Hornby to change the hopper wagons into grain wagons by adding a top piece to the wagon and adding ladders to each end. They probably did that to a lot of wagons over the years. But it is still nice to collect the different types and colours of the wagons. It's always a great pleasure to watch your Sunday videos Oscar, Sunday wouldn't be the same without you and your amazing railway. Well as always it's time for my cup of tea and a toasted tea cake. Keep safe and have a good week ahead Oscar. See you next Sunday. 👍🚂. P.S. It's my birthday today Oscar, ( June 30th, 1955.) where have all the years gone. ? Lol. 😊

The black 9F is one of my favourites if not my actual favourite loco . I got mine at Christmas 1974 . It kind of restored my interest in model railways because up to then I was plagued with stalling engines . This 9F was super smooth with all its pickups .as you said at the time the layout was a mixture of super4 and system 6 , but this dealt with all track easily . Loved this model . Only issue was with these soldered wires underneath that used to come apart . Still a favourite and running well . Another great video Oscar

Hi Oscar so interesting to see all the versions of the hopper wagons going back into the late 50's. Running the 8F and 9F together at the end was very enjoyable to watch. Many thanks again, Guy

Another great video Oscar. The 9F is my favourite British Railways standard design loco. It made a brilliant sight alongside the Dublo 8F. Hi, thanks for watching. I've been using a product called Servisol Super 10 Switch Cleaning Lubricant which comes in an aerosol and is designed for cleaning switches but has a very light lubricating oil within it. This provides great smoke out of both types of smoke unit used. The product has recently been changed name and is now branded as Kontakt Super 10, I think the company that made it has either gone out of business or being absorbed by another company. It has a number of other uses for model railways and is an excellent product it should be used very sparingly both in smoke units and for cleaning/lubricating. kontakt 601 is another cleaning agent made by the same company but this has no lubricating qualities but is excellent at cleaning electrical items such as motors and switches. All the best. Oscar

These bogie bolsters just show what rubbish Triang was pushing out when compared with Hornby Dublo. The only Triang items that grabbed my attention were the catenary set up and Minic Road Rail. Other Triang stuff was rubbish in comparison to Dublo too. Take the TPO set. It's a shame that Dublo continued with 3 rail. In terms of accuracy look at the Dublo milk tanker in comparison to the Dublo item. Much prefer Dublo, VB and Trix

I had a bogie bolster early in my model railway years. I still have it and can identify it amongst the others by a yellowing of the plastic. I have three, all from around 1960/65 with the Mk 3 couplers, such great play items with infinite load possibilities. I think your barked logs are cherry wood. Did they come with plastic bogies and pin point axles later? Cheers, David.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley 5 дней назад

Good afternoon David thanks for looking in and the info. I don't think this particular design of the bogie bolster got pinpoint axles, the model was changed in the early 60 (possibly around 1962?) to a more sophisticated design which went on to get pinpoints. It's great to hear you still your original model. Take care. Oscar

Why did you not put a righthand point going to the turntable instead of the lefthand one and just move the lower lefthand point across a bit. Would make the transition much smoother and less likely to cause the couplings to come undone?.

Good morning Gerard thank you again for looking in, an interesting thought. I have to say the track just sort of evolved that way around the turntable. Take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, R 110 Bogie Bolster Wagon... My very first piece of Tri-ang trains.. A birthday present in May 1955.. The deal was that if if was still intact by Christmas, I would get a complete train set? Both the R 110 and the train set (with standard track) are all still running in 2024.. Let's see modern Hornby do that? Although, I must confess to a piece of the underframe has broken the same as on your model and the red caboose has lost some steps (a frequent mishap and repair on them)? Otherwise every thing is still running? R 59 is Charlie's favourite loco, although he prefers the green livery? Today's video is truly nostalgic for us.. Thank you .. There is also an acetate R 16 Brake Van in the collection, that has shrunken so much that it popped off of the metal chassis? I am told that the injection mold at Rovex did two of the R 17, 18 or 19, short 4 wheel flat wagon bodies and one R 110 Bogie chassis on each pressing, (in grey plastic)? I'm not sure if this is correct or not? Also the same bolsters were used on both the R 110 and the smaller R 17 Bolster Wagon.. Great designing again from Tri-ang.. Bye for now..

Great video this morning Oscar will have to keep a look out for some of those timber wagons as I wouldn’t mind a rake of them myself, great to see them have a load, although I do wonder if they were ever issued with the later D type couplings, keep up the great work Oscar.

Hi, Yes they did have "D" couplers from about 1959 onwards.. Some latter chassis had securing holes for the Rocket Launcher option, that were visible in the floor though?

Good morning David thanks again for taking the time to watch, they make quite an interesting looking train, the bogie wagons did get Mk3 couplings as indicated by Rob in the attached comment. The wagon R.212 with the log load was available through to 61 and the basic R.110 bogie bolster without a load up to 66. All the best. Oscar

Morning Oscar, Great overview of the assorted bogie bolsters and loads. Fond memories of finding R59 on top of the wardrobe a few weeks before Christmas 1956-7 😀 Many thanks for the detailed reply on storing rolling stock and engines, appreciated. Gordon

Thanks again for looking in Gordon, that must've been a magic moment finding that tank locomotive hiding on top of the wardrobe before Christmas. All the best. Oscar

Hello and Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Great to see your bogie bolsters and Co Bo pulling them on your wonderful railway. The railway goods yard I worked in had lots of those wagons. My biggest regret always is not taking more photos of all the different types of wagons in the yard., oh well, anyway I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into your amazing layout. Well it's time to have my toasted tea cake and a cup of tea. ☕. Have a good weekend and a good week ahead and keep safe Oscar and ill see you next Sunday. 👍🚂

Good morning Martin thank you again for taking the time to watch. It's amazing how many pictures we didn't take in the past compared to today where it's comparatively easy and cost-effective to continue recording images. Looking back, I can think of many occasions and I think now why did I not take pictures... I've had a great weekend. The weather has been amazing here in the north east. All the. best. Oscar
